Swisscom Fixnet: Licensee for ClickandBuy in Switzerland

Internet payment system ClickandBuy establishes an international network.

Bluewin, a subsidiary of Switzerland’s largest Telecommunication provider Swisscom Fixnet, and Webpay, the parent company of one of the German's market leaders in online-payments, FIRSTGATE Internet AG, introduce the Internet payment solution ClickandBuy in Switzerland.

”The ClickandBuy license agreement with Swisscom Fixnet is a further milestone in our international payment system expansion”, says Norbert Stangl, Board Chairman of Webpay International AG. The launch of ClickandBuy in Switzerland is scheduled for the 4th quarter 2004 at which time Swiss users will be offered the opportunity to buy worldwide, wherever ClickandBuy is accepted.

British Telecom is another ClickandBuy licensee for Great Britain and Ireland, through an agreement signed in 2002. Together, British Telecom and Swisscom are the most important companies in the ClickandBuy Network, besides FIRSTGATE Internet AG. The Swisscom and British Telecom alliances are steps toward development of a European-wide payment-standard for the web and for mobile devices.

The ClickandBuy Network today consists of approximately 2,800 content providers located in Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, United States, Austria, Netherlands, France and Spain. Well known content providers using the ClickandBuy system include Stifung Warentest as well as large publishers such as Gruner&Jahr, Tomorrow Focus AG, Heise Verlag, Spiegel.net AG and many more.

In 2003, Swisscom Fixnet recorded annual revenue of CHF 5,846 billion. The company employs about 7.600 people serving the complex needs of customers throughout Switzerland with innovative services for its fixed telephone network. Swisscom Fixnet supports of 3.09 million analog connections and 924.000 ISDN-chanels all over Switzerland. The number of private customers was 2.95 million at the end of 2003, and the SMB count approximately 250,000.

Swisscom Fixnet’s future will focus on broadband. Bluewin is the leading ISP in Switzerland with about 670,000 dial-up-customers and over 270,000 customers using broadband connections. There has been close collaboration between Swisscom Fixnet and Bluewin since 2001 with the objective to optimize the network and sales of broadband services. In 2003, dial-up-customers spent 4.7 billion minutes online, accessing 1.3 billion page views.

Recently, three more companies joined the Swisscom Fixnet-Family: Cblex AG, which creates and supports networks; Swisscom Directories AG, the largest directory provider in Switzerland; and Swisscom Fixnet Wholesale, a distributor of network-services to resellers.
