British Telecommunications plc (‘BT’) and FIRSTGATE have agreed to a long-term operative and strategic relationship to establish the ClickandBuy™ micropayments system in the United Kingdom and Ireland / FIRSTGATE Internet AG extends its international activities

Cologne/London 24 April 2002. One of the world’s largest telecommunications providers, BT, and FIRSTGATE Internet AG, one of the leading German providers of micropayments solutions on the Internet, announced their strategic relationship at BT ‘s press conference in London on 24 April 2002. In close cooperation with the Cologne-based e-payment specialist, BT’s will build up and operate Firstgate’s ClickandBuy™ system in the UK and Ireland. ”The licensing of ClickandBuy™ to BT represents a further milestone in our company’s success story,” said Norbert Stangl, Chief Executive of FIRSTGATE. He continued by saying that successful development in Germany made it possible to launch the system in the UK hopefully as soon as September 2002, and that BT was already holding discussions with well-known internet content providers who are interested in using the e-payment solution in the UK and Ireland.
